SmartFan AC-VX AC Motor Speed ControlOperation/Installation Manual
SmartFan AC-VX is a TRIAC based AC motor speed control designed to control fans, pumps and motors in OEM applications. Automatic detection and adjustment for power factor permits efficient motor speed control of a wide range of single phase PSC (Permanent Split Capacitor) and shaded pole fans with current ratings up to 8.0 Amps that have been approved for voltage control by the motor manufacturer. The AC-VX AC motor speed control accepts 115 or 230 VAC (50/60 Hz) supply voltages.
AC-VX provides AC motor speed control over a range of about 4 to 1, as well as turns the motors off and on based on a control signal input. The control signal can be from a 20 mA current loop, 0 to 5 VDC, 0 to 10 VDC or P10-F remote temperature sensor input. Because the AC motor speed control signal is electrically isolated from the fan, it can be derived from nearly any source. This AC motor speed control is available with or without a NEMA 4X-rated polycarbonate enclosure.
CAUTION: SmartFan AC motor speed control products are designed for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and are not intended for end-user or after-market applications. SmartFan AC motor speed controls should only be used with compatible induction motors: Permanent Split Capacitor (PSC) or Shaded Pole. All AC motors must be approved by the motor manufacturer or thoroughly validated prior to use. Attempting to control a fan or motor that is not compatible could cause excessive heating and/or permanent damage to the motor.

Features – SmartFan AC-VX AC Motor Speed Control
- Under low speed conditions, acoustical noise and energy
usage are substantially reduced - Automatically detects and adjusts for power factor
- Compensates for variations in line voltage
- Does not require a separate low voltage power source
- Compatible with single phase PSC or shaded pole motors
that are phase (TRIAC) controllable - All connections through terminal blocks
- Control signal can be used to switch the fans on and off
- AC motor speed control is proportional to control signal
- Jumpers allow user selectable settings of:
- Full Speed Temperature (75-80-85-90°F)
- Temperature Differential (5-10-15°F)
- Idle at Minimum Speed or Turn OFF
- Minimum Idle Speed (Low-Medium-High)
- Includes RFI noise filter
- UL (File E100344) approval.
